Meet the Railway Workers

Meet the Railways is a twice monthly event where volunteers play an important role in assisting both children and adults to learn about life in the Works and on the GWR. Our volunteers interact directly with visitors providing additional learning experiences.

We’ll Meet Again is a twice yearly event where volunteers play an important role in assisting school visitors to learn about life during WW2. Our volunteers interact directly with visitors providing additional learning experiences.

Wednesday Gang

STEAM’s Wednesday Gang help the curatorial team with maintaining the condition of objects in the collection, keeping the vehicles on display looking at their best and assisting with the setup of special exhibitions and events.

Library and Archive

STEAM’s Library and Archive holds thousands of documents, photographs and books.  The Library volunteers help sort and catalogue a wide range of material from this collection.  Over the years they have filed and documented over 80,000 photographs and have made a wonderful resource accessible to the public.  Work undertaken by the volunteers is both hands on and computer based.
