The big GWR event of the year, celebrating all things railway!

Step into the glorious world of model railways…

Prepare to be amazed as you discover beautiful model railway engines, carriages, wagons, stock and scenery with an astounding level of detail and craftsmanship.

You’ll find 29 model railways throughout the Museum, covering the whole range of scales and gauges.

STEAM

Experts will be at hand to answer your questions and offer modelling tips, whether your knowledge is basic or specialist.

Family activities include special children’s interactive model railways, activity trails and dedicated play areas inside the Museum.

There will also be a live steam traction engine display at the front of the museum, including the sounding of STEAM's own Swindon Works Replica Hooter* (on the hour, every hour).

Teams and volunteers from other heritage railway organisations will be attending so it’s a great opportunity to delve even further into the world of steam (and diesel) railways.

As ever, there will be trade stands galore for all your railway bargains!

*Created by Colin Hatch, Hatch Heritage & Steam Engineers.

How to find us

Regular bus services provided by Swindon’s Bus Company www.swindonbus.co.uk and Stagecoach West www.stagecoachbus.com click here for full details.

Car parking for STEAM special events is in the Swindon Designer Outlet North and West car parks. Please note there is no free parking for STEAM special events. There is strictly no car parking outside of the Museum except for Blue Badge holders.

To find the North car park using a Sat Nav, please enter Kemble Drive. For the West car park, it’s Penzance Drive. Please be aware, the Swindon Designer West Car Park (accessible via Penzance Drive) is likely to be a little less busy than the North Car Park on Kemble Drive.

Please note the bus lane next to the West Car Park should NOT be used. Cameras are in use and fines will be issued by Swindon Borough Council to any car drivers using the bus lane.

To enter the West Car Park avoiding the bus lane, please use the postcode SN5 7JL.

Please be aware that road traffic around Kemble Drive and the Swindon Designer Outlet car parks can get very busy at weekends, especially when there is a special event happening. We advise you allow plenty of time for parking as there may be traffic queues for these car parks.

Alternative car parking is available at the nearby Bristol Street car park (postcode: SN1 5EQ) which is a 5-10 minute walk). Walk left outside the car park and keep going until you come to a pedestrian sign directing you through the GWR tunnel that connects to the Churchward site. Your route will pass English Heritage and Thomas Homes apartments, soon leading to STEAM Museum.

Nearby car parks also include the Brunel North and West multi-storey car parks, located just 10 minutes walk from STEAM.

We hope this information helps you plan your journey and look forward to welcoming you to one of the best model brick shows in the UK.
