The Friends of the Swindon Railway Museum

The objectives of the Friends organisation are to advance the education of the public by the promotion, support, assistance and improvement of STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon and welcome new members.

The Friends provide additional funding to assist the Museum in acquiring objects of railway interest and offer help to act as stewards at special events. A maintenance team overhaul, clean and restore exhibits within the Museum and in the library. Friends are maintaining databases of railway books, magazines, photographs, slides, postcards and documents. Members of the Friends receive a quarterly magazine ‘North Star’ and a programme of monthly meetings (excluding the summer months) are held on a Saturday afternoon or Monday evening with guest speakers providing illustrated talks on a variety of railway topics.
