Join Us for the Biggest GWR Event of the Year

Step into the glorious world of model railways...

Prepare to be amazed as you discover beautiful model railway engines, carriages, wagons, stock and scenery with their astounding level of detail and craftsmanship.

With a terrific variety of scales and gauges on offer (please scroll down for layout details), you'll find 27 model railways displayed throughout the Museum! So you can enjoy the magnificent real locomotives alongside the magical models.

These model railway are uniquely designed and built by expert enthusiasts and model railway groups who love to share their creations - reflecting their awesome dedication and skill in recreating picturesque and historic railway scenes in miniature.

Live Steam

Our two-day festival has a great atmosphere - full of cameraderie and lively chat.

You'll be welcomed on arrival by the live steam display at the front of the Museum, setting the scene with evocative smoky smells and sounds of the steam whistle.

Listen out too for the GWR Swindon Works Hooter - it's powered by live steam!

These attractions are courtesy of Hatch Heritage & Steam Engineers.

Family Activities

Family activities include special children's interactive model railways, activity trails,  dedicated play areas inside the Museum plus the chance to climb aboard No. 6000 King George V, No. 3440 City of Truro and No. 4073 Caerphilly Castle

And the Young at Heart

Fascinating modelling demonstrations will run throughout the weekend and you can chat to specialist modellers for tips and advice on building and weathering techniques.

Our friendly team of STEAM volunteers will also be at hand to answer any questions about exhibits and STEAM's permanent displays.

Teams and volunteers from other heritage railway organisations will be attending so it's a great opportunity to delve more into the world of steam (and diesel) railways.

As ever, there will be trade stands galore for all your railway bargains.

Refreshments GWR Style

Delicious refreshments will be served in the GWR outdoor arena, including a barbeque and Real Ale Bar.

Tempting home-made hot and cold meals are available at STEAM's Platform One Café.
