STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway
Fire Fly Avenue (off Kemble Drive)

STEAM is located in the Rodbourne area of Swindon and is approximately 10-20 minutes' walk from Swindon Town Centre.

We share the historic Churchward site with the McArthurGlen Swindon Designer Outlet, Heelis (National Trust HQ), English Heritage, Historic England and the National Monuments and Records Centre.

Please note - during December and on special event weekends (e.g our Christmas at STEAM weekend,) the Swindon Designer Outlet car parks do get very busy so please do allow plenty of time for your journey, and where possible use public transport.

Please also note, we cannot offer free visitor parking during special events.

By Bus from Swindon Town Centre

Regular bus services provided by Swindon Bus Company and Stagecoach West run from Swindon Town Centre. There are many bus stops within a short walk of STEAM.
From Swindon Town Centre, bus numbers 1, 1A, 5 and 10 stop close to STEAM - ask the bus driver for the Designer Outlet.
For details of buses, times and routes, please use the Swindon Travel Choices Journey Planner.
Alternatively, taxis are available at Swindon Bus Station, and also at the train station.

Travelling by Rail

Swindon is easily reached via the London Paddington to Bristol line. STEAM is 10-20 minutes' walk from Swindon Railway Station.
Turn right outside the Station, stay on the right hand side pedestrian path and keep going until you come to a pedestrian sign that directs you through the GWR tunnel that connects to the Churchward site. Your route will pass English Heritage and Thomas Homes appartments, soon leading to STEAM Museum.
