In order to carry out its duties, Swindon Borough Council sometimes has to conduct investigations covertly.
For example, some of the services provided by Trading Standards, or those performed by staff investigating benefit fraud or concerned with a child protection issue might involve undercover or surveillance work.
All such investigations are carried out in accordance with the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA).
