The Speech and Language Therapists work in all of the four Integrated Locality Teams as well as this Team, the Integrated Service for Disabled Children. Speech and Language Therapists assess children’s communication and sometimes eating and drinking, and then work with families and other services to help them improve the child’s skills or opportunities for communication and eating.
Speech and Language Therapists across Swindon work in a variety of settings, including clinics, pre-schools, mainstream and special schools and children’s homes. As well as helping individual families, they also do a lot of training for other professionals working with children in schools, pre-schools and children’s centres, for example.

Speech and Language Therapists in this team have specialist skills in the following areas – Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Cleft Lip and Palate, Deafness and Hearing loss, Alternative and Augmentative Communication, Eating and Drinking, Down Syndrome, Special School work. They work with other team members, including families to improve children’s skills and/or opportunities for communication or eating. Support Practitioners help us to do this. Staff contribute to multi-agency assessment via the Early Years Pathway, but they also work in mainstream and special schools and Specially Resourced Provisions across the Borough. Training is offered, for example in Signalong and eating and drinking difficulties. |
