Payment Methods

Payment can be made by any of the following means:

Direct Debit via Your Bank or Building Society

Direct Debit is Swindon Borough Council's preferred method of payment. Direct Debit is an automated method of paying your bills. Swindon Borough Council will arrange for your bank or building society to transfer your payments directly to Swindon Borough Council.

Benefits of Paying by Direct Debit

• The payment will be collected on the due date, the first day of each month
• It is a more convenient way to pay
• It helps you budget for the future
• It saves you money on postage and stationery
• It avoids travelling expenses and queuing
• You do not have to complete a new form every year, unless you change bank or building society or move business premises
• You will be notified at least ten working days before an amount is debited
• You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time
• All payments are governed by the Direct Debit guarantee

The Direct Debit Guarantee

• The Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society.
• If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, Swindon Borough Council will notify you at least ten working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
• If an error is made by Swindon Borough Council or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.
• You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.

If you currently pay by any other method and wish to change to Direct Debit, you must complete a Direct Debit instruction and return it to Swindon Borough Council's Business Rate Section.
