In November 2010 ‘Lode Star’ returned to Swindon on loan from the National Railway Museum to be displayed as a major exhibit at STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway. In honour of this association STEAM has commissioned Hornby to produce a limited edition model of ‘Lode Star’ to commemorate this fine locomotive. The model is limited to 1000 pieces and is exclusive to STEAM.
Supplied in eye catching packaging together with a numbered certificate of authenticity, this limited edition is expected in Spring 2013, but at present we do not have an exact delivery date. Painstakingly detailed, this is a reproduction of the historic frontage of Swindon Railway Works in BR days - known locally as the 'Railway Tunnel Entrance' - used by thousands of GWR and later, BR workers, several times daily and for many years.
The existing tunnel (off Bristol Street and London Street in Swindon's Railway Village) is still used by the public to walk between central Swindon and the Railway Station to the Churchward site.
