Swindon Railway Festival 2017

When: Saturday 09 September 2017 12:00 AM - Sunday 10 September 2017 05:00 PM

Join us for the the biggest GWR event in the UK as we celebrate King George V's 90th Birthday, plus all things railway!

Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September, 10am to 5pm

THIS IS THE PLACE where you'll see some of the finest model railways in the UK!

These spectacular model railway layouts are displayed longside STEAM's permanent exhibits and locomotives so you can experience intricate model railway scenes alongside the real thing!

Model railways on display are uniquely designed and built by railway groups and enthusiasts.

Don't miss our fascinating modelling demonstrations too. Whether you're a keen modeller or a beginner in search of some useful tips and advice, our event gives you the perfect opportunity and inspiration to combine your imagination with know-how.

      • 24 gigantic model railways, including nine brand new layouts!
      • Children's interactive model railways
      • Live steam display by Hatch Heritage & Steam Engineers
      • GWR Swindon Works Hooter
      • Three new special exhibitions, celebrating KGV's 90th Birthday
      • Over 30 trade stands and exhibitors
      • Inspirational modelling demos
      • BBQ, Real Ale Bar and Café

Trade stands inside the Museum will be stocked with model railway items, railway art, railway books and memorabilia for all your railway bargains.
Our knowledgeable and friendly team of STEAM volunteers will be at hand to answer your questions about the GWR locomotives and objects we have on display. You'll also get invited onto the footplate of No. 6000 King George V and No. 4073 Caerphilly Castle where, with the help of your imagination, you'll be transported back in time to the 'glory days' of steam!
Children and the young at heart get to test their skills as an engine driver on our steam train simulator or try their hand as a signalman in our interactive GWR Signal Box.

To keep your energy levels topped up, we have a Real Ale Bar and Festival Barbecue with a seating area in our Festival Marquee. Or you can choose to take a break at STEAM's own Platform One Café where you'll find a delicious menu of hot and cold snacks.

Please also note there is strictly no car parking outside of the Museum except for Blue Badge holders.

To find the car parks using a Sat Nav, enter 'Penzance Drive' for the West car park or 'Kemble Drive for the North car park.

Please note the bus lane next to the West Car Park should NOT be used. Cameras are in use and fines will be issued. To enter the West Car Park avoiding the Bus Lane, please use the postcode SN5 7JL.

Important: Planning your Journey and Car Parking
Please be aware that road traffic around Kemble Drive and the Swindon Designer Outlet Car Parks does get very busy at weekends, especially when there is a special event happening. We would advise that you allow plenty of time to allow for parking as there may be traffic queues for the car parks. If possible, we advise you travel by public transport for this event. Thank you.
