Spring into Action at STEAM this Easter 

This Easter holiday the Museum is simply bursting with things to see and do for all the family!  

Among story-telling displays, you’ll find legendary steam locomotives, including No. 6000 King George V, No. 3717 City of Truro, and No. 4073 Caerphilly  Castle; a train simulator, interactive Signal Box and oodles of hands-on exhibits.

Have fun getting to know the totally awesome 'KGV' with our brand new exhibition King George V: A Locomotive Legend  and join in with our Easter activity challenges, 'Bigger, Better, Faster!' on 13 April and 'Old News - New Inventions!' on 20 April - as we celebrate the 90th Birthday of this world-famous engine!

A collection of working vintage slot machines on our Seaside Pier completes your round trip, about two hours in all.

Bigger, Better, Faster! (Age guide: 6-12 yrs)

Join our friendly Learning Team and take up the challenge to make a car!
Try to get onto our leader board for the furthest distance travelled!
Come on your own or bring a friend!

Old News - New Inventions! (Age guide: 6-12 yrs) 

20 April, 11.00am-3.00pm (Drop-in) activity

In celebration of the 90th anniversary of King George V, which was built in 1927, we are looking at old inventions and creating new ones!
Our friendly learning team will give you some creative ideas as we celebrate 'the King's 90th Birthday! 

Meet the Railway Workers (All ages)

Meet the Railway Workers and get to climb aboard Caerphilly - Copy.jpg
15 April, 10.00 am – 4.00 pm 
Take this amazing opportunity to meet real GWR engine drivers and signalmen who will show you the controls and bring the great railway story to life!
Just head for No. 4073 Caerphilly Castle and you’ll find our friendly STEAM volunteers to welcome you aboard!
Children also get a special GWR certificate when they ‘change the points’ in STEAM’s authentic GWR Signal Box.  
This unique experience is free with standard admission and to STEAM Season Ticket holders. 

Special Detective Activity Box (Age guide: 6-12 yrs) 

Available every day, 10.00am – 5.00pm
Have heaps of fun following clues on our mystery activity trail! Our unique STEAM Detective Box includes a fun mystery trail that takes you around the Museum plus GWR puzzles. 
The box comes complete with a magnifying glass and secret message pen. So get set for uncovering important evidence as you explore intriguing hands-on objects and famous steam engines!
Cost: £5 per box in addition to the standard STEAM ticket price. 

Find the Numbers Trail (Age guide: 5-9 yrs)  

Every day, 10.00am – 5.00pm
As you travel around the Museum, you’ll see many different numbers, big and small.
Follow our fascinating trail to find numbers in some very surprising places!

Track It Down Trail (Age guide: under 5 yrs)   

Every day, 10.00am – 5.00pm 
Hunt for objects, shapes and colours and get  really involved with STEAM’s interactive displays and hands-on exhibits. You'll be amazed at the exciting things you discover! 

Work It Out! Trail (Age guide: 5-9 yrs)

Every Day, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm 
Take up the challenge and explore famous locomotives, even walk underneath 80 tonnes of metal as you work out the answers to some intriguing questions.
The above trails are free with standard admission and to STEAM Season Ticket holders. 

King George V: A Locomotive Legend *New* Exhibition 

Every Day, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm
Get on board for this brand new exhibition - exploring the GWR's reasons for designing and building the 'King Class' locomotives - as you have fun getting to know the totally awesome King George V!

1927 - Have I Got Old News for You *New* Exhibition

Every Day, 10.00am - 5.00pm
Don't miss this  quirky exhibition (in the Museum's Speed to the West area), looking at important GWR and worldwide events happening in 1927 (the year King George V was built). This exhibition is part of our special 'KGV90' year as we celebrate King George V's 90th Birthday! 
Free with standard admission and to STEAM Season Ticket holders. 

Play Areas for Young Children

Every Day, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm
Very young children really get to use their imagination with the Museum’s dedicated play areas which include play tables for colouring fun and interactive wooden toys, specially designed for little ones.

Platform One Café

Open Every Day, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm
To keep everyone's energy levels up, the Museum's Platform One Café has a whole range of tempting meals and refreshments to suit all tastes and budgets. (There’s a 5% discount in the Café to STEAM Season Ticket holders too.)

STEAM is fully accessible is open every day: 
Mon-Sat 10.00 am - 5.00 pm (last admission at 4.00 pm) and
Sunday 11.00am - 4.00pm (last admission 3.00pm. 
Please note that under 16s must be supervised by an adult at STEAM.
There’s free parking at the Swindon Designer Outlet car parks. Please ask for details at the STEAM ticket desk.
